Oxford scientists discover why Uranus and Neptune are different colors

Scientists at Oxford have found the reason why Neptune and Uranus, with similar masses, sizes and composition of the atmosphere, look different. Both planets are blue, but Neptune looks brighter than its neighbor, Interfax reports.

To determine the cause of the difference, scientists used data from the Hubble Space Telescope, NASA's infrared telescope and the Gemini North Telescope on the island of Hawaii. It turned out that a layer of haze, which is on both planets, is behind the different shades of blue. According to experts, Neptune and Uranus would appear almost equally blue if there were no haze in their atmospheres.

An international team of researchers has developed a model to describe the aerosol layers in the atmospheres of both planets, which includes three layers of haze – methane fog – at different heights in the atmospheres. Thus, the middle layer of particles is thicker on Uranus than on Neptune.

Methane ice condenses in the middle layer on the planets, which forms methane snow. This, in turn, pulls haze particles deeper into the atmosphere, where they can contribute to the condensation of hydrogen sulfide ice. This creates another, deeper cloud layer.

Neptune has a more active atmosphere that produces methane snow more efficiently, so its haze layer is thinner. In this regard, the color of the planet is more saturated. And on Uranus, excess haze accumulates in a stagnant atmosphere.

Earlier it was reported that polar explorers recorded an abnormal Australian heat wave in Antarctica. On March 18 at Vostok station, the coldest place on the planet, it was only -17.7 degrees Celsius. At the same time, usually at this time, the average temperature in Antarctica is -58 degrees.

Lavrov announced Turkey’s readiness to help clear Ukrainian ports of mines

Such an agreement was reached in a conversation between Putin and Erdogan. Russia is ready to allow ships with grain from Ukrainian ports to pass freely, but the problem lies in the “minefields” created by the Ukrainians, Lavrov said

Turkey will try to help clear Ukrainian ports for the release of food ships from them, he said Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov at a press conference following his visit to Saudi Arabia.

“Following a conversation with [Turkish President Recep Tayyip] Erdogan, an agreement was reached that the Turkish colleagues would try to help organize the demining of Ukrainian ports in order to free the courts taken hostage, in fact, from there,” — Lavrov said.

He said that there are no obstacles from the Russian side for the exit of food cargoes, they are only from Kyiv or the West. According to the minister, the problems with leaving the ports lie in the “minefields” that the Ukrainian servicemen have laid.

Lavrov said earlier that representatives of Ukraine should clear coastal waters, after which the Russian Navy will ensure unimpeded passage of ships with food to the Mediterranean Sea on the high seas, and from there to their destinations. The Ukrainian Foreign Ministry believes that an international operation is needed to restore grain exports from Ukraine, since Moscow's unilateral guarantees are not enough.

Russian President Vladimir Putin discussed with Erdogan the export of Ukrainian grain and ensuring safe navigation in the Black and Azov Seas on May 30. Then Putin expressed his readiness to promote the unhindered maritime transit of goods. Prior to this, the Russian president announced this by phone to his French counterpart Emmanuel Macron and German Chancellor Olaf Scholz.

The State Duma announced the reduction of losses in Ukraine after a change of tactics

The head of the Duma Defense Committee, General Kartapolov, said that the country had almost ceased to suffer losses in the military operation after it changed its tactics of warfare. The Ministry of Defense has not reported casualty data since March 25 The State Duma was told about the reduction of losses in Ukraine after the change of tactics” />

Russia has almost ceased to suffer losses during the military operation in Ukraine, RIA Novosti said. Chairman of the State Duma Committee on Defense, former Deputy Minister of Defense, Colonel-General Andrey Kartapolov.

The Ministry of Defense reported Russian losses in Ukraine only twice: on March 2 and 25. According to the latest data from the Russian department, 1,351 servicemen were killed and another 3,825 were wounded during the hostilities.

“Since then, the data has not been voiced by the Ministry of Defense and I will explain why. At present, of course, there are wounded, but there are no such number of dead. And this is the result of a change in approach to the tactics of warfare, & mdash; said Kartapolov.

According to him, at the beginning of the operation, the Russian military entered the territory controlled by Kyiv without using weapons. The tactics had to be changed after the servicemen “began to shoot, burn, capture, mock them,” the general said.

“Now it is carried out strictly according to military science, in accordance with all the governing documents, combat regulations, instructions for the use of various branches of the armed forces and types of the Armed Forces,” — he pointed out, adding that the new fighting techniques “bring measurable results.”

In early April, Russian presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov, in an interview with Sky News, said that Russia had suffered “significant losses of troops”, which was a “huge tragedy” for the country. Secretary of the General Council of United Russia, First Deputy Chairman of the Federation Council Andrei Turchak criticized Peskov's words. “Significant” losses, what are they? And what are the “insignificant” ones? And 8 years of victims of the genocide of Donbass— Was it just a tragedy for us? And now “great tragedy”? he inquired, adding that “at a time like this,” there should be no ambiguity. Later, a Kremlin spokesman explained that, speaking of “significant losses”, he meant the latest data from the Ministry of Defense.

Bloomberg learned about Hungary’s demand to exclude the head of the Russian Orthodox Church from sanctions

Hungary after the conditions on the oil embargo again delays the adoption of the sixth package of EU sanctions with the demand not to impose restrictions on Patriarch Kirill, Bloomberg learned. Budapest explained this as a matter of religious freedom. Hungary to exclude the head of the Russian Orthodox Church from sanctions” />

Patriarch Kirill

Hungary has demanded that Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia be removed from the proposed sanctions list, Bloomberg sources familiar with the talks between EU ambassadors on the sixth package of sanctions told Bloomberg. At the same time, one of the sources said that the name of the head of the Russian Orthodox Church was not mentioned at the EU meeting on sanctions earlier this week.

For the first time, AFP and The New York Times reported on the preparation by the European Union of restrictions against Patriarch Kirill in early May. Lithuania proposed to impose sanctions, but the Lithuanian Foreign Ministry noted that it is not known whether it will be possible to do this. EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs Josep Borrell pointed out that, as part of the sixth package of sanctions, restrictions are planned to be introduced against persons “spreading disinformation”.

Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban then said that his country will not support the inclusion of the head of the Russian Orthodox Church in the sanctions list, since this is a problem of religious freedom.

On the eve of Borrell, answering the question of whether Patriarch Kirill was included in the proposed list, said: “I think so.” The head of European diplomacy added that “a week ago I would have answered yes.”

The official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova, said that plans for restrictions against the head of the Russian Orthodox Church are “infernal” and testify to the helplessness and fear of Brussels.

Yuri Shevchuk announced the cancellation of the DDT concert in Moscow

Yuri Shevchuk

The concert of the rock band DDT scheduled for June 10 in Moscow will not take place. This was told to RBC by the team leader Yuri Shevchuk. According to him, the Moscow authorities did not allow the concert to take place.

“The Moscow Mayor's Office, its services responsible for security, did not allow us to play this concert. The guys who held the concert did not receive permission. The mayor's office motivated this by the fact that there is no court decision yet. But the court is ridiculous: in Ufa and the administration, it has nothing to do with Moscow. But it is clear that this is because of our position against the special operation, — Yury Shevchuk told RBC.

An administrative protocol under the article of the Code of Administrative Offenses on discrediting the actions of the Armed Forces was drawn up against Shevchuk after a concert in Ufa on May 18. The musician from the stage made an anti-war appeal and spoke about his understanding of the word “motherland”.

According to producer Radmir Usaev, after the concert, the security forces came backstage and “isolated” Shevchuk in the dressing room, after which we had a conversation with him about his statements.

Initially, the case materials were sent to the Sovetsky District Court of Ufa, but the DDT soloist asked to transfer the case for consideration by place of residence, in St. Petersburg. He refused to testify.

At the end of May, the Dzerzhinsky District Court of St. Petersburg returned the case against Shevchuk to the police “to eliminate shortcomings.” As explained in the court, the protocol drawn up against him does not describe the event of the offense and “there is no indication of what exactly the public calls to prevent the use of the Armed Forces in order to protect the interests of Russia and its citizens were expressed.”

According to the lawyer of the musician Alexander Peredruk, the content of the protocol boils down to the fact that “on May 18, while performing at a concert, he discredited the Armed Forces, committed an offense under Art. 20.3.3″ At the same time, it does not indicate what kind of statements discrediting the Russian military were made by his client, Peredruk also noted.

Marina Ovsyannikova

Journalist Marina Ovsyannikova, who in March live on Channel One showed an anti-war poster, got into the database of the Ukrainian site “Peacemaker”, which publishes the data of those who, in the opinion of its compilers, are involved in “crimes against the foundations of the national security of Ukraine.” The site was created in 2014, in Russia it was blocked by a court decision.

They also claim that Ovsyannikova is collaborating with the Russian special services.

The website indicates that Ovsyannikova was the editor of Channel One, unexpectedly ran under the camera on live TV with a poster “No to war”, and after that she safely left Russia. According to the portal, the journalist was born in Odessa on February 18, 1978.

The creators of the database also noted that on May 31, Interfax-Ukraine (the site was blocked at the request of the Prosecutor General's Office) announced a press conference “Exposure from Marina Ovsyannikova: How Russian Propaganda Works”, which was to be held on June 1 at the agency's premises in Kyiv. What is behind Germany’s promises to supply Ukraine with heavy weapons

At the end of April, Germany decided to start supplying heavy weapons to Ukraine. However, in Kyiv they say that more than a month has passed, and Berlin has not fulfilled its promises. What did Ukraine get? German promises to supply Ukraine with heavy weapons” />

Howitzers PzH 2000

What weapons did Scholz say about the supply of Ukraine

On Wednesday, June 1, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz said in the Bundestag that the country will supply Ukraine with modern IRIS-T air defense systems: they will be transferred to Kyiv in the coming weeks. The Armed Forces of Ukraine will also receive a modern radar station and 12 PzH 2000 self-propelled artillery mounts (ACS) from Germany (now Ukrainian military instructors are completing their development).

“The government has decided to supply the IRIS-T— this is the most modern air defense system of those that the Federal Republic of Germany has,— Scholz said. He noted that Germany has been constantly supplying weapons to Ukraine since the start of the Russian special operation. “To date, we have delivered more than 15 million rounds of ammunition, 100 thousand hand grenades, more than 5 thousand anti-tank mines,” — said the chancellor. He also mentioned the implementation of the so-called circular exchange with the Czech Republic: Prague will supply Kyiv with 20 Soviet T-72 tanks, and in return will receive 15 Leopard 2А4 tanks from Germany.

Following the meeting, Tagesspiegel, citing sources in government circles, reported that Scholz kept silent about another supply of weapons: Germany would send Ukraine four Mars II multiple launch rocket systems manufactured by Krauss-Maffei-Wegmann from its own stocks.

A day earlier, on the sidelines of the EU summit, Scholz held talks with Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis and agreed on a new circular arms exchange: Athens will supply Kyiv with 40-50-year-old BMP-1 armored personnel carriers, and in return they will receive German Marder-type infantry fighting vehicles from Berlin, which the Bundeswehr planned to replace with newer Puma type. Earlier it was reported that an agreement had been reached on a circular exchange with Poland and Slovenia: the latter was proposed to transfer a large number of T-72 tanks to Ukraine, and in return to receive a Marder infantry fighting vehicle and a Fuchs wheeled armored car from Germany.

Germany has long adhered to the policy of refusing to supply arms to Ukraine, but revised it after the start of the Russian military operation on February 24, although retaining an unspoken ban on the supply of heavy weapons. On April 28, the three ruling parties of the country, together with the largest opposition bloc of the Christian Democratic and Christian Social Unions, adopted a document in the Bundestag calling on the government to supply Ukraine with heavy weapons. At the same time, Berlin announced its intention to transfer 30 Gepard self-propelled anti-aircraft guns to Kyiv, organizing appropriate training for the Ukrainian military on the territory of Germany. The first batch of these self-propelled guns equipped with automatic guns is due to go to Ukraine in July, the second — in August.

Despite Berlin's statements about the upcoming deliveries of heavy weapons and circular exchanges, Ukrainian Ambassador to Germany Andriy Melnyk claims that Scholz does not really intend to implement the Bundestag's call and supply Kyiv with heavy weapons. In an interview with RND, Melnyk agreed with the journalist's statement that the choice of Gepard for delivery to Ukraine is a farce, since the FRG has only 23 thousand shells for them, which is enough for just half an hour of operation of one installation.

Ammunition for Gepard is produced in Switzerland, but it does not agree to supply them to war zones. And, according to Melnik, this issue has not yet been resolved. “We get the impression that the chancellor does not want to do this (supply heavy weapons to Ukraine.— RBC). There are only seven self-propelled howitzers [delivered], and we don’t have Gepard, just as we don’t have Leopard-1 or Marder. All of them have already been decommissioned by the Bundeswehr and can be transferred to us by the military industry without prejudice to the defense capability of the FRG, — Melnik continued. The ambassador also said that the deal with Slovenia has not yet been implemented, as Germany has not offered it an adequate replacement for the T-72 tanks. “It seems that this is how they are trying to buy time and are waiting for a ceasefire. Then the pressure on Germany will subside and there will be no need to make bold decisions, — summed up Melnik.

Politico, citing documents in its possession, reported on June 1 that Ukraine did not request Gepard from Germany, but filed an application on March 24 for the purchase of decommissioned Marder infantry fighting vehicles from the German defense concern Rheinmetall. On April 14, the concern agreed to sell 100 refurbished Marders and 1.5 million ammunition to Kyiv for a total cost of €153 million. The first batch, according to the documents, could be transferred to Ukraine within a few weeks. The corresponding deal must be approved by the German government, but there was no response from him. In parallel, Politico notes, the German chancellor promised to supply Marder to Greece. “There is no indication that Kyiv will receive any modern Marder models in the near future,” — states the publication.

The announced circular exchange deal with the Czech Republic has not yet been implemented and the timing of its implementation is unknown, according to the German portal NTV. A similar deal with Poland has also not been completed, although Warsaw has already transferred 240 Soviet-made tanks to Kyiv, Spiegel notes. According to the publication, Poland asked Germany for the latest Leopard models, but Berlin did not deliver them. In Germany, they cannot fulfill the requirements of Poland, because the FRG simply does not have these tanks available, Spiegel explains the situation. German Defense Minister Christina Lambrecht acknowledged at a closed meeting on May 16 that she had little hope left that Berlin could reach an agreement with Warsaw. “There were promises from the Germans to strengthen our defenses, unfortunately, none of this was realized,” — Deputy Foreign Minister of Poland Szymon Szynkowski said.

Earlier, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov made a statement that the Russian armed forces would consider warehouses and transports of weapons supplied to NATO to Kyiv as legitimate targets. “Of course, these weapons will be a legitimate target for the Russian armed forces, which operate as part of a special armed operation. And warehouses, including those in the west of Ukraine, have become such a target more than once, — he said on the air of the program “Big Game” on the “First” April 25.

Ukraine has promised the US that it will not use multiple launch rocket systems (MLRS) to strike Russia, US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken said after meeting with NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg.

will use these systems against targets on the territory of Russia”, — Blinken said.

He noted that trusting relations have been established between Kyiv and Washington.

Earlier, Reuters, citing senior administration official Joe Biden, reported that the United States would provide Kyiv with M142 HIMARS (High Mobility Artillery Rocket System) multiple launch rocket systems, which he had repeatedly requested. They will be part of a new $700 million US military aid package.

President Joe Biden, in an op-ed for The New York Times, wrote that Washington will continue to supply Kyiv with more advanced missile systems and munitions that will enable it to “hit key targets on the Ukrainian battlefield more accurately,” as well as Javelin anti-tank missiles, Stinger anti-aircraft missiles and other weapons. At the same time, the American leader stressed that the United States does not intend to enter into a conflict in Ukraine directly until they themselves or their allies are attacked.

According to Deputy Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov, any supply of weapons to Ukraine increases the risk of a direct US-Russia collision. The Kremlin, speaking about the possible transfer of the MLRS to the Ukrainian side, indicated that such actions by the United States “do not contribute to the awakening of the Ukrainian leadership's desire to resume peace negotiations,” but “purposefully and diligently add fuel to the fire.” “The United States, obviously, really adheres to the line of fighting Russia to the last Ukrainian,” — Dmitry Peskov, the press secretary of the Russian President, believes.

The Communist Party of the Russian Federation accused its deputy of “unsevered umbilical cord with Navalny”

The leadership of the Communist Party does not agree with the nomination of representatives of the party who supported Alexei Navalny to the Moscow municipal elections

Yuri Afonin

First Deputy Chairman of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of the Russian Federation Yuri Afonin explained to RBC why he opposed the nomination of a team of two representatives of the party— Deputy of the Moscow City Duma Yevgeny Stupin and former candidate for the State Duma Mikhail Lobanov.

“Firstly, it is strange that some separate teams are created in the elections to Moscow municipal bodies, because there is a common line of the party,— he said.— Secondly, the Communist Party of the Russian Federation cannot be represented by people who opposed the decision of the party on the LDNR, whose opinions differ from the Communist Party of the Russian Federation. Afonin also clarified that he was talking about the fact that Stupin and Lobanov “have not broken the umbilical cord connecting them with Smart Voting”; and Alexei Navalny».

Prior to this, the SOTA edition (the Ministry of Justice recognized the founder of Sota.Vision, Alexandra Ainbinder

Media-foreign agent) reported that Afonin ordered the exclusion of representatives of the “Navalnyatin” from the Communist Party of the Russian Federation. and people who do not support the special operation in Ukraine. The publication, citing a recording of the meeting held on Tuesday, claimed that the first deputy chairman of the party demanded that Lobanov and Stupin not be supported in Moscow.

Stupin told RBC that he was not at the meeting of the party activists, so he cannot confirm the authenticity of Afonin's speech. According to the Moscow City Duma deputy, he received a reprimand from the party in April for his anti-war position, since then there have been no complaints against him. He added that he did not have a separate team— only the Communist Party team. “In my districts, from which I was elected, naturally, I participate to some extent in the formation of candidates. However, all candidates— district activists, whom I consider worthy, are currently planning to go from the Communist Party. I don’t have a separate team, so far it looks more like disinformation,»,— Stupin noted. RBC turned to Mikhail Lobanov for comment.

Elections to councils of municipal deputies are to be held in Moscow on September 11 this year. Lobanov, who plans to run there, and Zyuzino municipal deputy Alexander Zamyatin, in connection with this, recently launched a platform for candidates called “Nomination”. Another platform— "HQ of Candidates"— to “preserve the institution of independent municipal deputies” launched a team of ex-“Yabloko”. It is assumed that both projects will help candidates legally and informationally.

During the elections to the State Duma in 2021, Lobanova supported the project of Navalny's team “Smart Voting” [the website of the project was blocked by Roskomnadzor, as it was found to be associated with the Anti-Corruption Foundation, declared extremist and banned in Russia], which, as conceived by the creators, helped to choose the most powerful opposition candidates. In 2019, in the elections to the Moscow City Duma, “Smart voting” supported Stupin's candidacy.

Biden allowed the continuation of purchases of Russian oil at prices below the market

According to Biden, due to the sharp rise in fuel prices, the United States, together with its allies, is considering the possibility of not completely abandoning Russian oil, but buying it at a price below the market

The United States is discussing with allies the possibility of buying Russian oil at below market prices instead of not importing it. This was stated by US President Joe Biden, the broadcast was hosted by Fox News.

According to him, Washington, along with its allies in Europe, is looking for options to contain fuel prices, which are rising amid the conflict in Ukraine and anti-Russian sanctions.

“You have a problem that has emerged now that Europe plans to further restrict purchases of Russian oil. There are active reflections on what can be done— maybe even buy oil, but at a limited price,— Biden said.

If such a decision is made, then Russia, he said, will retain the ability to export oil, but at a “price significantly lower than that currently established on the market.”

On May 30, EU members agreed on the sixth package of sanctions against Russia. The countries agreed to introduce a partial oil embargo, which will affect the supply of Russian oil by sea. According to Bloomberg sources, at first— by 2023— The EU plans to abandon sea supplies of raw materials, and after the interests of a number of landlocked countries are satisfied,— to expand the embargo on pipeline supplies.

As European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen specified, due to the embargo, Russian oil supplies to the EU will be reduced by about 90% by the end of the year. The remaining 10% will continue to flow along the southern branch of the Druzhba pipeline, including to Hungary, which was temporarily released from the embargo.

The United States imposed an embargo on oil and gas supplies from Russia in early March. In announcing this, Biden stated that he understood that such a decision would lead to an increase in the price of gasoline in the United States, but also the need to “apply pressure” on the Russian leader. A day after the embargo was announced, gasoline prices in the United States overcame their all-time high and exceeded $4.17 per gallon. To date, the price of gasoline in the US is $4.67, diesel— $5.53.

The Kremlin assumed that if the EU refused to purchase Russian oil, Russia would compensate for these volumes with sales in the east. Against the background of the embargo agreement, the price of the August futures for Brent oil exceeded $119 per barrel. Deputy Prime Minister of Russia Alexander Novak warned that if the embargo was adopted, it could soar even higher— up to $300 per barrel.

The White House confirmed the conduct of “cyber operations” against Russia

Earlier, the head of the US Cyber Command announced a series of “offensive digital operations” in support of Ukraine. The White House said they do not see contradictions in cyber operations and a direct conflict with Russia .jpg” alt=”White House confirms 'cyber operations' against Russia” />

Any offensive cyber activity against Russia is not a violation of US policy to prevent direct conflict, said White House Press Secretary Karine Jean- Pierre.

So she commented on the statements of the head of US Cyber Command, General Paul Nakasone, who previously told Sky News that the United States conducted a series of “offensive digital operations” in support of Ukraine.

According to the general, all “digital operations” against Russia are conducted under civilian oversight and in accordance with the policy adopted by the US Department of Defense. At the same time, Nakasone refused to go into details and confirm the legality of such actions.

Since the beginning of the Russian military operation in Ukraine, the number of DDoS attacks on Russian organizations has increased by times compared to the same periods last year.

The purpose of DDoS attacks is to disrupt the infrastructure of the attacked company. To conduct them, hackers use botnet networks or other methods to create an avalanche-like increase in requests to an online resource, increase the load on it to the maximum, and thereby disable it. Botnet networks can consist, for example, of infected computers that hackers use remotely without the knowledge of the user, or of other devices, such as “smart” speakers, etc. The size of botnet networks can reach hundreds of thousands of devices.

So, in March, the number of DDoS attacks increased by eight times, and most of the attacks were against banks— 35% of the total, experts from Kaspersky Lab found out. At the same time, a third of the attacks fell on state bodies, on educational institutions— almost every tenth (9%), on the media— 3%. In “Sberbank” in mid-May it was reported that in the “cyber war” more than 100 thousand hackers are involved against Russia

In mid-March, the Ministry of Digital Development proposed to send the Central Bank a list of information systems that could potentially be the targets of cyberattacks. “Ministry of Digital Organizes Work on Filtering Foreign Traffic Using Technical Threat Countermeasures,” — a representative of the department told RBC.

Earlier, US President Joe Biden suggested that Moscow would respond with cyberattacks to anti-Russian sanctions. In his opinion, the government is “doing its part in preparing for potential Russian cyberattacks.”

The Kremlin denied the allegations. According to the press secretary of the President Dmitry Peskov, the Russian side “unlike many Western countries, including the United States, does not engage in banditry at the state level.”

Are there killer waves?

In November 2020, scientists recorded the highest sea wave ever recorded. But a study confirming this fact was only published this year. The wave that made a splash in the scientific community was 58 feet (almost 17.7 meters) high.

A record wave was recorded off the western coast of Canada's Vancouver Island. It was measured using a special sensor buoy — it is part of a network of 26 similar devices installed on ocean coasts throughout North America. According to the researchers, the wave exceeded the height of a four-story building. Describing her size, they say that she was three times taller than any other near her. “Such waves look like a big block sticking out of the water with a high top and huge troughs in front of it,” said Scott Beatty, CEO of a company that operates a network of buoys. And the lead author of the study, an employee of the University of Victoria Johannes Gemmrichstated that such events occur once every 1300 years.

Extremely high waves, also called rogue waves, killer waves and even freak waves, were recognized by science as a phenomenon not so long ago, only in the last few decades. And before that for hundreds of years they were part of maritime folklore. Killer waves are unpredictable: they usually come unexpectedly, appearing as if from nowhere. asked the head of the  layers of the St. Petersburg Branch of the Institute of Oceanology of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Doctor of Geographical Sciences Alexei Zimin:

“Extreme waves (the ninth shaft, killer waves, freak waves, cape rollers, etc.) — these are single, randomly appearing steep waves, the amplitude of which is several times higher than the average observed values. For quite a long time their existence caused a discussion among scientists, despite the significant number of incidents to which they led, and the many casual observers. But when the results of individual contact observations of extreme waves were obtained and their wide distribution in the World Ocean was revealed according to remote sensing of the Earth from space, the fact of their existence was recognized.

Now this class of waves is being actively studied, the goals — concretize their geometric and dynamic parameters, identify areas of frequent occurrence and develop forecast methods. The main role here belongs to models that are developed using geophysical hydrodynamics. They allow us to understand the mechanisms of the origin and development of extreme waves, to generalize the results of global satellite observations.

Linear models were the first to be proposed, related to the processes of various types of focusing (spatial or related to the characteristics of the medium in which oscillations propagate) of wave energy. For the emergence of an extreme wave from the group of ordinary sea waves, in this case, either the interaction of waves of different nature moving in the same direction or the interaction of waves from different sources is required. Other favorable conditions — the presence of variable driving forces or specific propagation conditions (this can be a strong current, variable depth, non-uniform wind).

But it often happens that the observed extreme waves have larger amplitudes than they should have, based on linear models. This is due to the fact that extreme waves are characterized by nonlinear dynamics. And the more intense it is, the more significant this influence. The speed of wave propagation becomes a function of their amplitude, which contributes to a more efficient interaction of individual waves. Now this direction is developing intensively. For example, it is shown that, as a result of the development of modulation instability, waves can “grow” more than 7 times!

Generalization of the results of long-term observations and the use of statistical models makes it possible to determine those areas of the World Ocean where anomalously high waves are most likely. This is very important for solving practical problems.

The harm from killer waves is obvious. They pose a threat to ships, their crews and passengers, as well as residents of coastal areas. It is assumed that extreme waves are involved in the disappearance of many ships in the past. Crews simply don't have time to react to them in order to change course and avoid capsizing.

The lawyer estimated the chances of the inheritance of the third wife of Gradsky

The third wife of the Russian singer Alexander Gradsky, Olga Gradskaya (Fartysheva), has certain chances of receiving a share of the inheritance, said Channel Five. lawyer Sergey Zhorin.

“In principle, there are prospects, and here is why: despite the fact that the limitation period is three years, it is important from what moment it is calculated. It is calculated, that is, it begins its countdown not from the moment of dissolution of the marriage, but when one or another spouse found out or should have found out about the violation of his rights, — he said.

If the ex-wife can prove that she did not know about the existence of the property acquired during their life together, then the statute of limitations will not be violated, the lawyer specified.

Olga and Alexander lived together for more than 20 years and divorced in 2001 at the initiative of his wife. The eldest children of Gradsky were born in marriage: Daniil and Maria.

Alexander Gradsky died on November 28, 2021 at the age of 73. Experts estimate his inheritance at 400 million rubles, including a house, a summer residence, several land plots, and other property. According to the will, the widow Marina Kotashenko, their common sons Alexander and Ivan, as well as two children from Olga were declared heirs.

On May 1, it became known that Olga Gradskaya filed a lawsuit against Marina Kotashenko and her children. The lawsuit will have a preliminary hearing on June 27.

The composer, by the way, loved her very much. “I got to the aria of the Swans, — he wrote to the singer Nadezhda Zabela-Vrubel. — Suddenly, a surge of pride, complacency and admiration for one’s own creativity begins. Do you think how smart, poetic and beautiful I was then, of course, in the sense of music.

Spectators «Tales» waiting for a happy ending — even the villains were forgiven. And at the end of the performance, each child was presented with a gift from the Russian Children's Fund — books and sweets. After that, the boys and girls went to charity dinners — On June 1, they are hosted by the best Moscow restaurants, including the legendary Metropol. Further — the program is even more interesting and exciting: a tour of Red Square, a visit to the best museums in Russia: Historical, Cosmonautics… Many children from the Russian hinterland could not even dream of such a holiday.

Museums, theaters, circuses

The tradition of solemnly celebrating International Children's Day was established by the Foundation in 1987, when the then Soviet (since 1991 — Russian) Children's Foundation was founded. In 1989, it was he who initiated the signing and ratification of the Convention on the Rights of the Child adopted by the UN General Assembly.

Today, RDF — is one of the oldest charitable organizations in our country, which has been helping children for 35 years, relying on its own branches in 75 regions of the Russian Federation and the help of volunteers. RDF works on 16 regional and 17 federal programs. Here are just a few of them: “Blind Children”, “Deaf Children”, “Frontline Children of Chechnya”, “Children of Beslan”, “Help for the Children of South Ossetia”, “Miles of Kindness”…

According to the program «June 1 — International Day of Defense Day» every year 10-12 thousand children from low-income and foster families, orphans and disabled people come to Moscow. Moreover, not only from cities and villages of Russia, but also from abroad. For several days, the guys visit theaters, museums, circuses, sights of the capital. They receive gifts, vivid impressions, a charge of vivacity and, of course, new friends.

Over the years, thanks to the foundation, 370,000 boys and girls from all regions of Russia have visited Moscow on International Children's Day. Those who most of all need help, attention and care.

Evil microbe. Under the guise of a good cause, the United States artificially caused epidemics

Weekly “Argumenty i Fakty” No. 22. Science tortures boys and girls too 01/06/2022

The United States is collecting biological materials in the post-Soviet space, studying the specifics of the spread of dangerous diseases, and developing bioweapons in Ukraine.

This was stated byVladimir Putin < /strong>at the CSTO summit. “As you know, in our common region, the Pentagon has created dozens of specialized biolaboratories and centers, ——  he said. And Ministry of Foreign Affairs representative Maria Zakharovareported that 30 laboratories of Ukraine were working to enhance the pathogenic properties of anthrax, plague and other deadly diseases.

The topic of US military biological activities on the territory of other countries has entered the international political agenda. During a special operation, the Russian military uncovered the facts of an emergency cleansing by the Kyiv regime of traces of a military biological program being implemented in Ukraine, which was funded by the US Department of Defense. Later, US Deputy Secretary of State Victoria Nuland acknowledged that there are facilities in Ukraine where Americans conduct research in the field of biology, and Washington is concerned that Russia will gain access to     them.

We climbed into all institutions

As Vladimir Putin said at the same CSTO summit, American biological laboratories in the post-Soviet space “are by no means engaged in providing practical medical assistance to the population of those countries where they have launched their activities.” Under the guise of a good cause, experiments are being carried out with pathogens in order to artificially cause epidemics.

Americans know how to take advantage of any situation. When the Soviet Union collapsed, they easily got into all the research institutes of the former republics. In 90s. life was hard, there were no reagents in the laboratories, scientists were sitting without a salary, institutions were falling apart. The Americans went to research institutes: let we pay you, and you continue to do research. For this, NGOs were created, through which scientific institutions and enterprises were controlled. George Soros — the one who recently called for the overthrow of President Putin, — on behalf of his foundation he financed many Russian scientists. Experienced scientists recall that due to  NPOs, they managed to travel quite a lot around the world: they trained local doctors, shared experience, fought infections in those countries where the Americans themselves were afraid to go. The money received for these business trips made it possible to make ends meet.

And  it seems there is nothing wrong with this (the iron curtain fell, international cooperation developed), but  the Americans just don do nothing. Entering  medical research institutes, they tried to integrate them in their research system. Its essence is that American scientists want to know where in the world what diseases exist. According to the official version, they need this in order to be ready for outbreaks of infections and in case of trouble, to help the local population in time. But, as it turns out now, under the guise of helping other countries, their specialists conduct research in the interests of their military department. For example, having learned that there are natural foci of some disease in the country (for example, Crimean-Congo hemorrhagic fever), they study its pathogen, and then secretly, when necessary, throw it on the civilian population. And everything is disguised as a natural outbreak of infection. The purpose of such an operation may be to destabilize the situation, create panic, etc.

Dozens of biological laboratories are located in the post-Soviet space of the USA. There are they in Armenia, Georgia, Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan. Moreover, Russian scientists are not allowed into these research centers. And a laboratory was built in Georgia, where even Georgians are not allowed. According to  the former adviser to Saakashvili, Jeffrey Silverman, in this country, American scientists worked with bubonic plague.

Enhance the functions of the virus

In Ukraine, representatives of the American military department (more precisely, the US Department of Defense Threat Reduction Agency) paid the Ministry of Health to turn a blind eye to their activities, allowing them to do anything in biolaboratories. It was officially announced that the United States, in cooperation with the Ukrainian government, was working on the peaceful study of viruses, but then in the eastern regions, near Donetsk and Kharkov, outbreaks of pneumonia and other infections suddenly appeared. Apparently, it was planned to spray some kind of pathogens and from the air: recently, drones with containers and the necessary equipment were found in Kherson region.

And here is another shocking example. According to the information of the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation, from 2019 to 2021  American scientists from the laboratory of the city of Merefa in the Kharkov region conducted tests on patients of the regional psychiatric hospital. Potentially dangerous biological drugs were tested on them. Persons with mental disorders were selected according to age, nationality and immune status.

President of the National Research Center “Kurchatov Institute” Mikhail Kovalchukcompared these experiences with the atrocities of World War II. “The Japanese, „Detachment 731“, were doing experiments in an absolutely inhuman way, — the scientist explained. — The Americans dropped the atomic bomb on Hiroshima and Nagasaki without thinking about anything. Therefore, it doesn't cost anything for them to use us, the Slavs, as a biomaterial for experiments. And in fact, these are not experiments, but training in use of future biological weapons».

Sometimes the opinion is expressed that the Americans, among other things, develop “ethnic bioweapons” in  — — bacteria and viruses that selectively affect people of a certain nationality. In fact, it's impossible to  — this follows from some scientifically based patterns regarding genetics. However, in secret biolaboratories, where outsiders are not allowed to enter, and so there is something to do. For example, you can create a pathogen that is resistant to antibiotics. Or a microbe that will be more evil than usual. What do mean? There is such a term — Gain-of-Function. They are called studies aimed at artificially enhancing the functions of a particular virus. You can make the virus weaker, or, on the contrary, make it stronger, more evil.

Such research is officially prohibited. But, as we now know, there are scientists who believe that the generally accepted rules do not apply to them.
